Harald Bock

Biography:
Harald Bock is Directeur de Recherche at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal, a joint institute of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the Université de Bordeaux that focuses on soft matter chemistry and physics. He obtained his doctorate at the Freie Universität Berlin under the supervision of Wolfgang Helfrich, and thereafter worked for four years at Sharp Laboratories of Europe in Oxford under Peter Reynes, whereupon he joined the CNRS. His research is centered on columnar liquid crystals for optoelectronics and the electronic makeup of nonplanar condensed aromatics. He is currently interested in particular in the glass transition in columnar mesophases, and in the effect of liquid crystalline self-assembly on delayed luminescence.
